Whether you like it or not, the right motivational quotes can inspire you to take action.
The other day I laid in bed looking up at the ceiling… not wanting to get up, procrastinating, lacking motivation. Enter: Motivational quotes.
That day, I didn’t feel like writing the 2,000+ word blog post I was planning to publish today.
It’s normal to experience lapses in motivation, to want to procrastinate instead of doing what’s needed. But at the end of the day, successful bloggers know that you must push past those feelings, and find ways to do what at times seems impossible.
To help reset myself that day, I started reading motivational quotes from the comforts of my bed.
That set in motion the idea to present to you some of the most motivational quotes — that have helped inspire me as a blogger in my most difficult moments.
So are you ready to get off your ass, start a blog, and create your own success?
These motivational quotes will inspire you to do all that and more:
#1. Walt Disney
“The way to get started is to quit talking and start doing”
You can dream about becoming a blogger all you want, but if you don’t get your butt off that couch and start a blog… it’s never going to happen.
You hold all the cards. I can’t force you to do anything you don’t want. You must decide to take action and embark on your next journey.
#2. Mark Twain
“The secret to getting ahead is getting started”
When I laid in bed that day feeling like a turd, time kept passing by as if I didn’t exist.
The moment I decided to open up my laptop, read motivational quotes, and start writing… this blog post came about.
You cannot become a blogger without first starting a new blog.
#3. Wayne Gretzky
“You miss 100% of the shots you never take”
Wayne Gretzky is considered the best Hockey player of all-time.
He scored 894 goals in his career which is 91 more than the second-best.
What no one ever mentions is that it took him 5,088 shots to make those 894 goals. In other words… in order to become the best ever, he had to become accustomed to failure.
Don’t let your failures destroy you. Learn from them, get up, and try again.
#4. Robert Kiyosaki
“Failure defeats losers, failure inspire winners”
Don’t let yourself, or anyone else for that matter, drag you down because of your failures.
Failing 1,000 times doesn’t make you a loser, it teaches you 1,000 ways not to fail again.
#5. Albert Einstein
“You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else”
As an aspiring blogger, you should learn as much as possible from the bloggers that came before you.
The more you know about the game, the better chances you have of succeeding.
#6. Unknown
“Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”
Feeling too old to start a new career path? Think again… blogging has no barriers.
Anyone can be a blogger. There are no age, color, ethnicity, or gender barriers to worry about.
Want proof?
- Shauna Robertson: Started blogging after the age of 50.
- Jon Morrow: Can only move his face, yet is one of the most influential bloggers around.
- Auston and David: Successful gay travel bloggers
- Jessica: Paid off $113,000 in student loans by age of 29.
Don’t let your situation dictate whether or not you become a blogger. Being a blogger has nothing to do with your age, background, ethnicity, gender, or income.
No matter what your situation, you can become a blogger if that’s what you want.
#7. Claire Cook
“If Plan A doesn’t work, the alphabet has 25 more letters.”
I love this quote.
No matter how well prepared you are, when you decide to take the plunge into becoming a blogger, some of your ideas are doomed to fail.
Some will fail because you didn’t take proper action, and others because they just weren’t that great.
… Just remember, if plan A doesn’t work, you have 25 more letters to work with.
#8. Anais Nin
“Good things happen to those who hustle.”
I’m a firm believer in that — so long as your putting all your effort into something, you’ll find a way to make it work.
It doesn’t matter if it’s into becoming a successful blogger, or the best bank robber in the world. You’ll be successful at whatever you put your unrelenting effort into.
#9. Audre Lorde
“I am deliberate and afraid of nothing.”
This motivational quote is a reminder that if you want to become a successful blogger, you’ll need to work like your life depends on it.
Don’t allow anything or anyone to keep you from becoming the best blogger you can be.
#10. Steve Jobs
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
I can’t say enough about Steve Jobs. His Stanford commencement speech inspired me to become a better person in a time which I really need a kick in the butt.
This motivational quote is not part of that speech, but it has stuck with me ever since I came across it.
It’s true, we have nothing to lose… so why not spend the time we have on this earth doing the things we actually love doing?
#11. Patti Smith
“Never let go of that fiery sadness called desire.”
The moment you lose your ambition, your drive to succeed evaporates.
If you desire to become a blogger, nothing can stop you from succeeding. It’s as simple as that.
Save this motivational quote — it’ll help you get through some of the rough times that lie ahead.
#12. Ronald Reagan
“It’s true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?”
I laughed my ass off when I came across this motivational quote, and to be honest–I have no idea why.
Don’t try working 24 hour days. It won’t do you or anyone around you any good.
I’m guilty of working 16-20 hour days every now and then. Sometimes I just get in a zone in which time doesn’t seem to exist.
However, doing this too often is not a good idea. Always find time for your friends, family, or other activities that you love doing.
Life can’t always be about work.
#13. Richard Bach
“The more I want to get something done, the less I call it work.”
Speaking of not working yourself to death… here’s a motivational quote that makes “work time” feel like “play time.”
One of the most beautiful things in life is finding a “job” that you love. Doing so makes everything seems like a playful game.
Whether it’s blogging about money, healthy eating, or travel. Find a niche you are passionate about and figure out a way to monetize it.
#14. Winston Churchill
“You make a living by what you earn; you make a life by what you give.”
I never truly understood the meaning of this quote until I traveled along the border of Haiti and saw little kids running down mountains every time they’d hear an engine running to beg for money.
I wanted to help, but I didn’t have enough to give everybody, so how was I to chose which kids to help when all the others were in the same condition?
I felt powerless for the first time in my life, and it wasn’t because they were poor, it was because I felt like I couldn’t help them.
Long story short, I couldn’t get that experience out of my head and decided that I needed to do something. So I decided to buy school supplies for a poor girl whose parents couldn’t even afford sending her to school.
Truth is, to this day, I have no idea where that little girl ended up. But I can tell you one thing… giving and seeing the happiness it brings to those in need is the most addictive experience I’ve ever had in my short life.
Help others if you have the means. It doesn’t have to involve money, it can be something as simple as visiting an old person at a nursing home.
Those kinds of memories are priceless and will help you understand the true meaning of this motivational quote.
#15. Winston Churchill
“If you are going through hell, keep going.”
Another Winston Churchill classic.
No matter what you’re going through, keep chugging along because there’s always something better on the other side.
Success isn’t easy… when you start blogging, your traffic might not grow at the rate you desire, but trust me when I say this… keep pushing because the wheels will continue rolling until you reach your destination.
#16. Michael Conniff
“Blogs are whatever we make them. Defining ‘Blog’ is a fool’s errand.”
This is so true. I have never seen two blogs that are the same.
Blogs are just as unique as the personalities behind them.
#17. Gary Vaynerchuk
“What you do after you create your content is what truly counts.”
Expert bloggers know this, and you should too.
You can write the best blog post in the world, but if you don’t promote it, it’s worthless.
If you want to earn an income as a full-time blogger, you must spend most of your time promoting the content you create. If people don’t know it exists, they can’t purchase whatever you’re trying to sell them.
#18. Brian Clark
“Don’t focus on having a great blog. Focus on producing a blog that’s great for your readers.”
Think about this one for a sec.
Your readers are the lifeblood of your blog. You cannot succeed as a blogger without them.
Therefore your main focus should be producing a blog that connects with your readers.
#19. Seth Godin
“Don’t find customers for your products, find products for your customers.”
So you have a blog with an ever-growing number of readers.
What next? should you find customers for your products, or find products that solve problems for your readers?
I’d take the latter. There’s no sense in trying to sell people who come to this blog a Rolex when they’re most interested in starting a blog, growing its following, and monetizing it.
Find products for your customers and you’ll never go broke.
#20. Steve Jobs
“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.”
Take that from one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all-time.
Being a blogger isn’t easy. Perseverance can help you get through the toughest citations you’ll face as a blogger.
#21. Darren Rowse
“I’ve long advised that bloggers seeking to make money from blogging spread their interests across multiple revenue streams so as not to put all their eggs in one basket.”
Any financial advisor that’s worth a damn is going to tell you to diversify your stock market investments.
Remember the Enron fiasco and how many people lost their entire life’s savings because they placed all their eggs into the Enron basket?
Don’t commit that mistake as a blogger.
How?
By having different traffic sources, as well as different revenue streams.
#22. Penelope Trunk
“Blogging is good for your career. A well-executed blog sets you apart as an expert in your field.”
Don’t underestimate the power of becoming a successful blogger.
Many people have used their blogs as a stepping stone for reaching their true destination.
You never know who’s eyes will end up on your blog and the new doors it will open for you.
#23. Dick Costolo
“The Internet destroyed most of the barriers to publication. The cost of being a publisher dropped to almost zero with two interesting immediate results: anybody can publish, and more importantly, you can publish whatever you want.”
It doesn’t take much money to start a blog and start publishing whatever you want.
With Bluehost (affiliate link), you can start out for as little as $3.95 a month.
What other career path can you embark on with such a small up-front cost?
#24. Chris Brogan
“If you accept all the praise, you have to accept all the critics.”
It’s great to hear how much you helped someone tackle a problem they needed help with. But it’s an entirely different ballgame hearing someone say how much you suck.
The more success you find as a blogger, the bigger the following you’ll have, and the more haters you’ll attract.
Not all criticism is bad though, so weed out the haters and learn from genuine criticism.
#25. Zig Ziglar
“If people like you they will listen to you, but if they trust you they’ll do business with you.”
Most bloggers focus too much on being liked, and not enough on building a genuine connection with their readers.
Be real, build trust with your readers, and stop trying to be everyone else.
Once you have your reader’s trust, nothing can stop you from reaching whatever level of success you strive for.
#26. Babe Ruth
“Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.”
Babe Ruth, The Great Bambino, is considered among the greatest baseball players of all-time.
For those of you who have never played baseball… a strikeout is the worst outcome a batter can have, conversely a home run is the best.
Three strikes = strikeout, so why would a great hitter such as Babe Ruth say that every strike brings him closer to the next home run?
I believe it’s because he knew he couldn’t hit a home run every time he went up to bat. However, if no pitches were ever thrown to him, he would never have the opportunity to hit a home run.
Take your swings and if you miss, don’t worry because you’re just a few more swings away from hitting a home run.
#27. Seth Godin
“If you love writing or making music or blogging or any sort of performing art, then do it. Do it with everything you’ve got. Just don’t plan on using it as a shortcut to making a living.”
The more I see this motivational quote, the more I like it.
I don’t believe there are any shortcuts to becoming a successful blogger. However, I do believe having the right knowledge and putting it to use can make the journey much easier.
A lot of bloggers boast about making millions in order to push you into buying their products. Don’t think it’s all glitz and glamour… it takes a lot of hard work to get to the top.
#28. David Aston
“Successful blogging is not about one time hits. It’s about building a loyal following over time.”
Don’t dwell on your early successes, continue moving forward and building on that success.
Doing so will ensure that your blog continues growing and therefore creating more potential customers for you.
#29. Steve Pavlina
“It should feel genuinely good to earn income from your blog – you should be driven by a healthy ambition to succeed. If your blog provides genuine value, you fully deserve to earn income from it.”
I have spoken with many bloggers who feel like sellouts the moment they start monetizing their blogs.
I always turn them to this motivational quote.
There should be no shame in making a living from your blog if you’re providing genuine value to your readers.
#30. Steve Jobs
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Be crazy enough to think you can change the blogosphere and you just might.
Store away your fears and let your inner rebel relish in your journey to becoming a successful blogger.
#31. Mahatma Gandhi
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”
Mahatma Gandhi is a legend. I could have made this list of motivational quotes all about Gandhi.
However, that would have been no fun. This quote is a must mention though.
Being a highly successful blogger doesn’t require much physical strength. However, it does require that you can an indomitable will.
#32. Ray Liotta, Goodfellas
“Fuck you, pay me.”
This motivational quote cracks me up… it’s awesome.
It’s a constant reminder that as a blogger you must value your time and the hard work you put it. Demand that others value it too.
#33. Stephen C. Hogan
“You can’t have a million-dollar dream with a minimum-wage work ethic.”
Most bloggers don’t make any money and you want to know why?
Because their dreams aren’t synchronized with their work ethic.
Don’t expect to make a million bucks from your blog by working on it sporadically.
#34. James W. Frick
“Don’t tell me where your priorities are. Show me where you spend your money and I’ll tell you what they are.”
You might talk a big game about wanting to be a blogger, but if you’re not even willing to spend $3.95 a month to get started then it’s all fluff.
Put your money where your mouth is and get started. Once you get the ball rolling, only you can decide how far you want to go.
#35. Jim Rohn
“Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.”
Truer words have never been spoken.
No matter how healthy, rich, or poor you are at this very moment–your time on this earth will end someday.
Enjoy your life… don’t let money, fame, or anything get in the way of your happiness, because you’ll never know when your time to say goodbye has come until it’s too late.
#36. Unknown
“The person who doesn’t know where his next dollar is coming from usually doesn’t know where his last dollar went.”
Keep track of your finances.
Not doing so is the easiest way to becoming an ex-blogger.
#37. Miguel Cairo
“Successful bloggers don’t spam”
Hey, that’s me!!!
My sincerest apologies to anyone who has ever used this quote. I looked around and didn’t find this motivational quote anywhere.
Is it even motivational? Heck, I don’t know. All I know is that I hate spam… yes, even the edible kind.
I know it’s tempting trying to squeeze every little penny you can out of things, but do so in a non-spammy way.
Don’t bombard your email subscribers with several emails a day trying to sell them something… you might get a few sales that way, but most likely you’re going to lose tons of subscribers.
Provide your email subscribers with valuable information when you actually have something valuable for them, not every time you want to sell them something.
Trust me on this one 🙂
